All of the board houses we use send me pdf files of each layer for an OK
before they proceed. I can look for any obvious D-code mistakes and any
special shapes I made to see if they came through as expected.

happy to do a check-plot of the artwork onto film for the customer to

the outputs prior to manufacture.
Far cheaper than 'suck it and see' board runs.

experience with Gerber readers, but it seems to me that it would be

easy these days to make a prototype run to check out any radically new

questionable PCB structures. Granted, the monetary resources may
prohibit
this in a lot of cases. Just my 2 cents worth.
