First, you have to instantiate the 20 sub-sheets on the main (or other)
sheet,
then do the flatten hierarchy, which will "expand" the 20 instances of the
sheet symbol into 20 actual sheets with different names.

Uhhh, it doesn't, period. You can duplicate the pre-made block once it
is in the
clipboard, but the reannotating is not simple or automatic. If you
named the
parts in the right scheme, then you can select each channel and global
edit all the
component identifiers at once, so it takes 20 global edits. That sounds
awful, but
really can be done, in, maybe 10 minutes.
